With Zero Errors, 8-year-old Mexican Girl Wins World Calculation Championship In China

8-year-old Zury Tlapanco Reyes solved 70 math problems in just two minutes with no errors...all in her head.
"Sentí nervios, pero muy poquitos, no tantos," the young mathematician told Unicable.
Eight-year-old Zury Tlapanco Reyes, a fourth grader from Altamira, Tamaulipas, has been declared Grand Champion of the 2019 International Mental Arithmetic Competition, reports ForbesMx.
The event, held in Guangzhou, China, was attended by students from around the world, and Zury took first place among them after solving 70 math problems in just two minutes - all in her head.

La pequeña tampiqueña and math aficionado worked hard for her championship, studying at the ALOHA Mental Arithmetic center and winning first the local, then the regional, and finally the national competition before heading off to China to represent Mexico in the international competition.
But she couldn't have done it without the generous help of her community, which helped raise funds to send Zury overseas, and the support of her mother, Cindy Reyes Castillo, who accompanied her.
"Mucha gente puso su granito de arena, nos apoyó, estuvieron presentes, nos echaron porras, entonces sí estamos muy contentos y Zury está muy contenta de haber ganado esa copa, por lo que estamos muy agradecidas con todos," Reyes Castillo told Unicable.
