TAKEOVER: Latin Music Is Now More Popular Than Country Music Across U.S.

According to new report, Latin music has surpassed country music in popularity across the U.S.

With jams by Nicky, Balvin, Ozuna, Becky and Karol G, Fonsi, y más (not to mention banda), 2018 took Latin music's growing popularity to the next level.

Latin music streams jumped almost 40 percent last year according to Billboard, with "69.8 BILLION audio and video streams in the U.S. alone."

Daddy Yankee became the first Latin artist to hit Number 1 on Spotify, while Ozuna was the most-viewed artist on YouTube, with 10 billion views.

Eight out of the top ten most-viewed videos on YouTube in 2018 were music videos by Latin artists, and 9 out of 10 featured a Latin artist.

"Te Boté (Remix)" by Nio García, Casper, Darell Mágico, ft. Nicky Jam, Bad Bunny and Ozuna was the number one watched YouTube video of 2018, with 1.5 billion views. (Scroll to bottom for full list.)

The song is pretty fitting, considering that Latin music just knocked country music out of the top five most-listened-to album genres, according to a report by BuzzAngle, a company that tracks music consumption.

But Latin music isn't just making streaming strides. we're also making history on the regional and live performance fronts.

Last September, Los Tigres del Norte became the first norteño act to play the Hollywood Bowl, and, this year, Los Tucanes De Tijuana will be taking the stage at Coachella 2019 (click HERE to read more about Tucanes and Latin lineup at Coachella.)
