Mexicanas Triumph At Math Olympics, Winning Gold And Silver

Mexico was well represented at this year's European Mathematical Olympiad.

Seventeen-year-old Ana Paula Jiménez Díaz took home the gold, Mexico's second gold in the history of the competition, while her teammates Nuria Sydykova y Karla Rebeca both took home silver, and Nathalia del Carmen Jasso Vera earned an honorable mention.

The team of young Mexicanas celebrated their wins wearing traditional huipiles and mariachi sombreros.

The European Mathematical Olympiad is an event that encourages young women to participate in mathematics.  The international competition, which this year took place in Ukraine and hosted teams from 50 countries, recognizes participants for their creative problem-solving abilities, not mere memorization, reports SinEmbargo.

Congratulations to these mujeres representing their país with pride; no doubt they have bright futures ahead.

¡Viva México!
