"I Was My Father's Sex Slave": Latina Shares Harrowing Story Of Abuse, Hopes To Help Others

"Anything he wanted, I had to do."

The rape and abuse began when she was just 6 years old, and continued over the next 19 years, resulting in three children.  Now, she is speaking out to help others who are dealing with sexual abuse and violence.

Tatiana Thibes spent almost two decades being sexually, physically, and emotionally abused by her father, Lindolfo.  She has 3 children by him.

"I never tried to escape. I wish I did. He threatened to kill me. Plenty of times, I contemplated hurting him, but I was just so scared of the unknown, and I just gave in."

When she was a child, Lindolfo forced Tatiana to take drugs and alcohol before violating her.  As she grew up, the drugging and assault continued - and things escalated.

At 12, Lindolfo pulled her out of school so he could sexually assault her more regularly.  At 15, he forced her to have sex with other men as he watched, and beat her when she didn't.  At 16, he impregnated her for the first time.

In total, Tatiana was pregnant four times, with one abortion. During her last pregnancy, her father tried to kill her.

“When I was pregnant with my youngest daughter, I was about seven months pregnant, and he tied my hands behind the chair, put a bag over my head and just suffocated me. I felt like I died and I came back.”

Tatiana was a prisoner in her own home.  Her father set up security cameras outside the home and even convinced her that he had installed motion sensors under the bed and floor.

It may seem unbelievable that Tatiana never tried to escape, but abusers traumatize their victims into submission through physical and emotional abuse and threats, especially when the abuse has been ongoing since childhood.

Tatiana did finally escape, but only after her father stabbed her repeatedly in the chest.

Tatiana was able to run to the emergency room, where she told authorities that she was afraid for her children. After initially saying a "boyfriend" had stabbed her, Tatiana eventually revealed that the man was her father - and the father of her children.

Rick Carr, lead investigator on Tatiana's case, says, "Talking with Lindolfo was like looking at the devil."  Lindolfo was convicted and is serving a 109-year sentence.

After her escape, Tatiana tried to live a normal life with her daughters, who she says give her life meaning and purpose.

Unfortunately, having to relive the hideous trauma in public during her father's trial sent Tatiana down a path of self-destruction which ended in her arrest.  Fortunately, she was sentenced to rehabilitation.

Now, Tatiana is sharing her story, hoping to create awareness and help other women and children suffering through sexual abuse.

Tatiana's situation may have been especially horrifying, but all instances of sexual abuse are painful and damaging - and the statistics are shocking.  One out of four girls and one in every six boys is sexually abused, usually by a family member or friend of the family.  Twenty percent of those are abused by their own fathers.
