Diego Luna At The Oscars: "Ya Nos Abrieron La Puerta Y No Nos Sacan De Aquí"

"Ya nos abrieron la puerta y no nos sacan de aquí."

We're in the door, and we're here to stay.

Diego Luna was chosen to present Roma as nominee for Best Picture, alongside Spanish chef and humanitarian José Andrés. Diego addressed his remarks in Spanish: "Ya se puede hablar español en los Oscars," he said, "Ya nos abrieron la puerta y no nos sacan de aquí."

We're in the door, and we're here to stay.

Diego's comment applies to the Oscars (five out of the last six Best Director winners have been Mexican, including Alfonso Cuarón this year for Roma), as well as film, television, music (Latin artists are the most viewed on YouTube), even government.

On the red carpet, Diego commented:

“I’m hearing Spanish all around, which is lovely.  I remember the first time I did this, I didn’t know anyone. I was with Gael [García Bernal].  No one wanted to interview us — they had to push for someone to actually spend three minutes asking us whatever.  And things are changing!

Yes, they are.
