Yalitza Responds To "Pinche india" Comments: "Estoy Orgullosa De Ser Indígena Oaxaqueña"
Video of telenovela star Sergio Goyri calling Yalitza a "pinche india" has gone viral.
"It's unthinkable that they would nominate a pinche india who only says sí señora, no señora."
Goyri has played many telenovela villains throughout his career - it turns out he has a similar personality in real life.
The 60-year-old Mexican actor was out to dinner with friends when his girlfriend captured his hateful remarks on video.
Goyri said Yalitza doesn't deserve to be considered for Best Actress because she's a "pinche india," after which he imitated her saying "sí señora, no señora."
Goyri has since apologized, although not to Yalitza directly.
"I don't think she'd be interested because there wasn't really any malice on my part. It's just a comment like pinche chino, el pinche trenzudo (racial slurs for Asians and blacks)...that's how men talk."
For her part, Yalitza has responded to all of the abuse with nothing but class:
“I’m proud of being an indigenous oaxaqueña, and it saddens me that there are people who don’t know the true meaning of the words.”
